Running Grand Canyon 50k

This run became something much bigger than a 50K. Running the Grand Canyon with marathon legend Ryan Hall, alongside friends from Believe in the Run, Mount to Coast and Path Projects… humbling, epic, and one I won’t forget.

Long miles. Relentless heat. Big climbs. And a few cold river and waterfall plunges to survive it all.

Our route was South Kaibab → Phantom Ranch → Ribbon Falls → back out.

This 12 minute YouTube video gives a good summary of the day. I can highly recommend this route for a long hike or running adventure.

A few quotes that stood out to my by Ryan Hall this day:

  1. "I couldn't sleep last night cuz I'm like a kid like about to go to Disneyland."
  2. "What you're hearing will change as you go throughout the canyon, which is why I call this place the sanctuary."
  3. "If you're going to be out there for 10 hours, there's ups and downs that are going to happen naturally."
  4. "That was worth every every step back there to get to this."
  5. "If you sit in quiet peace, it's easy to hear."
